BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Soccer Complex) -- Hillary Arechigo scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist on Mary O'Brien's (So., F, Maplewood, Minn.) game-winner to propel the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead Saturday at the BSU Soccer Complex.
The Dragons were the first to strike at the 37:58 mark when MSUM was awarded a corner kick and Isabel Neyman found the end of it and drove one past sophomore goalkeeper Sonja Barr (So., GK, Duluth, Minn.).
Less then 10 minutes (43:22) later BSU responded with a goal of its own off a corner kick. Freshman Abigail Nyquist (D, Golden Valley, Minn.) sent in the kick and after a MSUM defender tried to clear it, the ball found Arechigo who shot one into the right side of the net.
The score remained tied until the 68:01 mark when Arechigo dribbled by a defender, passed the ball to Jess Voeller (Jr., F, White Bear Lake, Minn.), who passed it across the six-yard box and O’Brien was able to knock it in for the eventual game-winning goal.
O’Brien now has a team-leading seven goals this season and two game-winners.
Bemidji State was outshot in the game 25-11 while notching eight on goal.
Barr matched a season-high, posting nine saves in the victory. She improves to 6-0-1 on the season.
BSU remains undefeated while playing at home and with the victory it extends it’s winning streak to five games.
