Beavers earn a 2-0 rebound victory versus Concordia-St. Paul

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Mary O'Brien (F, Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) and Sarah Stram (F, Fr., Elk Grove Village, Ill.) each netted a goal and Sonja Barr (GK, Jr., Duluth, Minn.) turned aside all six of Concordia University, St. Paul's shots on goal to propel the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 2-0 victory Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The win comes on the heels of Saturday’s 3-1 loss to (8) Minnesota State University and moves the team's overall record to 5-1-0, while the Beavers improve to 2-1-0 in NSIC play.

Stram put the Beavers in the lead during 20th minute of play. Barr’s punt caught a wind gust and cleared virtually everyone but the Concordia-St. Paul goalkeeper. When a Golden Bear defender misplayed the ball off her head, the freshman forward gained control of the ball and neatly tucked a shot inside the left post for her team-leading third goal of the season.

Leading 1-0 to open the second half, O'Brien matched Stram for the team's goal scoring lead in the 52nd minute, netting her third goal of 2013. Jessie Voeller (F, Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) found an opening in the CU back end and threaded a pass to O'Brien, who fired a laser into the far corner of the net.

Despite being out shot 15-11 in the match, Barr and the BSU defense took care of the rest. The Beavers' back line kept the Golden Bears at bay and Barr made the saves necessary to collect her second shutout of the season and secure the victory or BSU.  She improved to 3-0-0 with the win.

The Beavers return to action next weekend as they hit the road for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests. BSU will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for a 1 p.m. match up with Augustana College and make the trip to Wayne, Neb. Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at Wayne State College.
