Beavers blank Marauders, 5-0

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Maria McLeod (M, Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) matched a school record with three assists, while Mary O'Brien (F, Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) scored a pair of goals and Jessie Voeller (F, Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) added two assists to lead the Bemidji State University Soccer team to a 5-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over the University of Mary Saturday at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The Beavers built a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from O'Brien (14:01) and Sarah Stram (M, Fr., Elk Grove Village, Ill.) (27:09).

O'Brien opened the second half matching Stram for the team's lead in goal scoring with her seventh of the season in the 49th minute.

The Beavers would get a pair of insurance goals late in the contest. Bayley Ertl (F, Fr., North Branch, Minn.) netted her second of the season with help from Voeller in the 73rd minute and Hillary Arechigo (M, So., Monticello, Minn.) lofted her first of 2013 over the head of the Marauders' goalkeeper with just over six minutes to play to bring the score to 5-0.

Sonja Barr (GK, Jr., Duluth, Minn.) collected three saves to post her fifth shutout and improve to 7-3-0 in 2013.

The 5-0 win marks the first time BSU has posted five goals in a game or won by five goals since defeating the University of Minnesota Crookston 5-0 Sept. 19, 2010.

The Beavers, now 10-5-0 overall and 7-5-0 in league play, host Minot State University in an NSIC match up tomorrow. BSU opens the day with a special Make-A-Wish Candy Cup game at 11:30 a.m. before hosting the Beavers at 1 p.m.
