ST. PAUL (Sea Foam Stadium) -- McKenzie Buck broke a scoreless tie in the 82nd minute Sunday, at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, to lift Concordia University, St. Paul over Bemidji State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer action.
Scoreless through 81 minutes, Buck scored her first goal of the season on a hard, low shot to the left corner of the net from 10 yards out. The goal slipped by BSU’s Sonja Barr (Sr., Duluth, Minn.) The goal was all the Golden Bears would need as their goalkeeper, Emma Gartner improved to 2-4-1 on the season stopping all five of BSU shots on goal.
The Beavers, who were unable to generate any scoring offense for the third time this season, were out shot by the Golden Bears, 11-10, however, BSU registered five shots on goal to CU's four in the match.
The 1-0 road loss marked an end to an eight-game road streak to open the season.
The Beavers, who fell to 3-5-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in NSIC play, return to Bemidji, Minn. to host its 2014 home opener Saturday in a 1 p.m. NSIC matchup with Augustana College at Chet Anderson Stadium.
