Beavers officially kick off 2015 season against Minnesota Crookston

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team will open its 2015 campaign with a home match against University of Minnesota Crookston at 7 p.m. Thursday in Chet Anderson Stadium. Both the Beavers (0-0 overall) and the Golden Eagles (0-0 overall) will play their first matches of the season, looking to grab an early advantage in Northern Sun play.

Bemidji State extended its winning streak against Minnesota Crookston to 17 straight with a 3-1 victory in Crookston, Minn., last season. The Beavers are 19-5-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 8-2-1 versus UMC in Bemidji, Minn.

Junior Sarah Stram, a native of Elk Grove Village, Ill., will be relied on as a key player for the Beavers after leading the team in goals a season ago. Stram’s 12 goals in 2014 (five coming as the game-decider) was the fourth most in the NSIC. Sophomore Raquel Thelen (Andover, Minn.) also provided value on the offensive end, recording seven assists to rank tied for fifth in the category in the NSIC.

Prior to kick-off in Chet Anderson Stadium, BSU will host its 10th annual Community Appreciation Day from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. on the lake side areas of campus. Free food samples courtesy of local businesses, games for youth, meet BSU student-athletes and join with friends and neighbors to celebrate our community. The free event is a way for BSU to say “thank you” to the residents of Bemidji and the surrounding communities for all they do to support the university.
