Norton nets hat trick in BSU 7-1 victory over Sioux Falls

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Rachael Norton scored three times and added an assist to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 7-1 victory over University of Sioux Falls Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Seven different BSU players entered their name on the score sheet, as in five Beavers scored goals, including the first of the season from Claire White, Raquel Thelen and Bre Sollie.

Norton got the scoring started for the Beavers netting her fifth goal of 2015 in the 22nd minute of play on a pass form Emily Olson. After USF scored in the 32nd minute to tie the score, White gave the Beavers the lead for good beating the Cougars' goalkeeper in the 35th minute of play.

Norton found the back of the net to close the first half (41') and to open the second half, completing her first collegaite hat trick in the 84th minute of the match.

BSU added to its lead when Thelen scored int he 60th minute, Sarah Stram posted her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 68th minute and fittingly, a senior, Sollie, wrapped up the scoring on senior day with her first goal of the season in the 79th minute of play.

The Beavers will now play five of their final six matches of the regular season on the road beginning with a two-match road trip Oct. 17-18. The Beavers will travel to Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. to open the weekend of play at 1 p.m. Saturday, before a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee at Minnesota State University Moorhead in Moorhead, Minn.
