ABERDEEN, S.D. (Jerde Field) – Northern State University’s Darian Leschewski scored in the 106th minute to push the Wolves past the Bemidji State University soccer team Saturday at Jerde Field in Aberdeen, Minn. The double-overtime loss snapped BSU’s three-match wining streak.
The teams were locked in a scoreless tie for the first 44 minutes of action, but NSU’s Allie Macdonald found the back of the net with just 22 seconds before halftime to put NSU up 1-0.
After a being held scoreless during the first half despite out shooting the Wolves 10-3, it didn’t take long for BSU get on the board in the second half. Sarah Stram netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 49th minute with an assist by Christine Szurek.
The score would remain tied through the end of regulation. BSU goalkeeper Anna Fobbe made four of her nine saves in the second half to keep the Beavers in the game, force overtime and give them a chance to gain the victory. The freshman falls to 5-5-0 on the season.
In the 98th minute, BSU’s Miranda Famestad bounced a shot of the cross bar, but that was as close as the Beavers would get to the win and just minutes into the second overtime session, NSU secured the victory.
BSU out shot NSU 24-20, while the Wolves held an 11-9 edge in shots on goal.
Bemidji State dips to 8-5-0 overall and 5-5-0 in NSIC play.
The Beavers continue their five-match road stretch tomorrow when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. for a 1 p.m. matinee at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
