Four-goal second half propels Beavers to victory
Tuesday, September 6, 2016

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Craig Field at Sprat Memorial Stadium) -- Buoyed by a pair of goals from sophomore forward Rachel Norton, the Bemidji State Soccer team used a four-goal second half to battle back for a non-conference victory over Missouri Western State University, Tuesday in St. Joseph, Mo.

In addition to Norton's four-point afternoon, senior forward Bayley Ertl logged a goal and an assist, freshman Tia Nueharth recorded her first collegiate goal and junior Raquel Thelen posted her second assist of 2016.

The teams battled to a 0-0 tie to end the first 45 minutes of play, but the Griffons grabbed the first lead of the match in the 65th minute on a Cassidy Menke goal.

The goal would serve as a wakeup call to the Beavers, who scored 50 seconds later (65:44) and would add two more goals, unanswered, during the next 12 minutes.

Neuharth got the Beavers on the board with a goal from the middle of the field, 45 yards out in the 66th minute. Norton would add her first goal of the night and first of the season in the 68th minute, before Ertl took a crossing pass from Thelen for a goal in the 77th minute of play. Norton secured the victory in the 86th minute when she buried a cross from Ertl.

Anna Fobbe backstopped a defensive unit that was outshot 14-6, but allowed just two shots on goal. Fobbe picked up a save in her first victory of the season.

The Beavers look to protect their unblemished record (2-0;1-0 NSIC) Friday when they return to Chet Anderson Stadium for a non-conference match up with Northern Michigan University. The match is set for a 7 p.m. opening kick. BSU then hosts Michigan Tech at 1 p.m. Sunday.
