BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Emma Brechlin scored and Anna Fobbe turned aside all three shots she faced to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Sioux Falls Sunday. The victory earned the Beavers a home playoff match for the first time since 2010.
After a scoreless first half, the Beavers opened the second with inspired play. The significant offensive pressure paid off in the 72nd minute when Brechlin was on the doorstep to corral a Melanie Peltier rebound off the post for her third goal of the season. Both Peltier and Allie Erickson were credited with assists on the play.
The Beavers finished the match with a 28-5 edge in shots, with a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Fobbe improved to 6-3-0 with the win. It was her third solo shutout of the season and the sixth by the Beavers in 2016.
