Second half burst propels No. 22 Beavers past Wildcats

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- The Bemidji State University soccer team won its third straight and extended its unbeaten streak to 12 matches Saturday using a pair of second half goals, less than three minutes apart, to defeat Wayne State College, 2-0, at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The No. 22 Beavers got goals from Raquel Thelen and Allyson Smith and shut out their opponent for the 10th time this season.

Thelen got the Beavers on the scoreboard netting her fourth goal of the season, and the eventual game-winning goal, in the 54th minute. Allyson Smith found the back of the net in the 57th minute to put BSU up 2-0 and settle the score.  BSU's top scorer, Rachel Norton, was credited with her sixth assist of 2017-18 on Smith’s fifth goal of the season.

Bemidji State goalkeepers Catherine Arneson and Anna Fobbe split time in goal. Arneson collected two saves, while Fobbe stopped three and was credited with the victory.  She moves to 6-0-1 on the season.

The Beavers (11-0-1; 9-0-1 NSIC) return to Chet Anderson Stadium tomorrow for an NSIC match up with Augustana University (9-2-2; 8-1-1 NSIC). The opening kick is set for 1 p.m.
