BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Rachael Norton scored twice and Dani Nelson's goal in the 53rd minute would prove to Bemidji State University's game winner after St. Cloud State University scored a pair of penalty kick goals late.
The Beavers got on the board early. Smith took the ball of the sideline and slid a pass behind the SCSU back line to Norton. The senior flipped her third goal of the season over the charging goalkeeper to put BSU up 1-0 in the 11th minute.
The score would remain locked at 1-0 until the 49th minute when Norton would again find the back of the net again for her second goal of the afternoon and fourth of the season. Just four minutes later, Nelson scored to put BSU up 3-0--an advantage that would prove significant.
BSU would dodge a bullet in the 55th minute when the Huskies capitalized on some miscommunication in a scrum in front of the BSU goal and looked to have scored, but the lineman called SCSU off sides and the goal was called off. BSU then had their own goal called off due to an off sides call moments later.
The Huskies got the benefit of a pair of penalty kicks late and Maria Witte would make good on both to pull SCSU to within a goal with less than a minute to play, but the Beavers would hold on for thier fifth consecutive victory.
Goalkeeper Anna Fobbe allowed two penalty kick goals and collected five saves in the victory.
Bemidji State improves to 5-0-0 on the seaosn and 2-0-0 in NSIC play.
The Beavers return to Chet Anderson Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday to host the University of Minnesota Duluth in league play.
