BSU wraps up road trip with 2-0 shutout at Winona State

WINONA, Minn.  (Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium) – The Bemidji State University Soccer Team wrapped up a 2-0-0 road trip with a shutout victory at Winona State University Sunday. The Beavers got goals from Ally Smith and Rachael Norton, while Anna Fobbe turned aside all six shots she saw to lead BSU to its eight straight victory.

The win allows BSU to duplicate a program-best eight-match winning streak set last season in the midst of an 18-match unbeaten streak (15-0-3).

Ally Smith got the Beavers on the board in the 32nd minute with her fifth goal of the season. The sophomore got the ball and placed in in the left side of the goal, beating the goalkeeper. It was her third goal of the weekend.

The Beavers would cling to the 1-0 lead deep into the second half, but Rachael Norton found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to double the BSU lead and net the eighth goal of the season to not only lead the team, but also rank among the nation’s top goal scorers.

Anna Fobbe improved to 8-0-0 in the match making six saves to collect her third shutout of the season.

The win helped BSU improve to 8-0-0 on the season and remain perfect in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a 5-0-0 record.

BSU returns home next weekend for a pair of NSIC match ups. The Beavers will host Sioux Falls at 3 p.m. Friday and will host Southwest Minnesota State for a 1 p.m. match up Sunday. Both matches are set for Chet Anderson Stadium.
