BSU soccer stays hot in cold weather with 3-1 win over Minot State Friday

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Sophomore forward Sara Wendt continued her hot streak in snowy conditions Friday afternoon with her sixth and seventh goals of the season to spark Bemidji State University’s 3-1 win over Minot State University. Wendt has now scored a point in six straight games to help Beaver Soccer to a 7-2-1 overall record and an unbeaten 6-0-1 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The duo of Wendt and Majewski created a goal for the second straight game, which was set up on a free kick by senior midfielder Skylar Prentice. Majewski headed the free kick to Wendt who hit the top cross bar and put BSU ahead, 1-0, in the 12th minute of play.

Wendt worked alone on the next BSU goal, coming in the 67th minute of play, as she stole the ball in the opposing territory and shook the goalie before putting in her second goal of the game. Just one minute later, sophomore forward Erin Becker was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick. She sent the kick to the bottom right of the net to give Bemidji State its 3-0 lead.

Wendt has scored six goals (three game-winning games) with two assists over the last six games and leads the team with those six goals and 12 points. Becker’s goal was her first of the season on the team’s first penalty kick attempt of the season.

Bemidji State owned possession for the majority of the game and led in total shots, 14-4, and shots on goal, 8-4.

Bemidji State returns to the pitch Sunday with Senior Day against University of Mary. The Beavers and Marauders kickoff from Chet Anderson Stadium at 1 p.m.
