BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Junior forward Alanna Mattson scored in the 106th minute of play to break a scoreless tie and give the Bemidji State University soccer team its seventh consecutive victory Sunday. The goal capped BSU's Senior Day with a 1-0, double overtime victory.
Now with seven straight wins, the Beavers have a record of 8-2-1 overall and are perfect in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at 7-0-1.
Scoreless through regulations and the first overtime period despite dominating posession early, the Beavers pressed in the second overtime period. Freshman Kennedy Michel fired a shot that caromed off a Marauder defender's leg and to the foot of Mattson. The junior deposited her second goal of the season into the back of the net, beating the UMary goalkeeper to the right side of the net from 10 yards out.
Alyssa Stumbaugh turned aside three shots in 105:54 of play for her first collegiate shutout.
The Beavers will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Concordia University-St. Paul for a 7 p.m. match up with the Golden Bears Friday before a 1 p.m. Sunday clash with Minnesota State University, Mankato.
