KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team has been selected to the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award list in a recent announcement from the organization’s national office.
Bemidji State, which carried a 3.60 cumulative team grade point average 2019-20, was one of eight institutions hailing from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and 556 women’s soccer teams from all collegiate levels across the country earn the honor for 2019-20.
In addition to Bemidji State, Northern Sun Intercollegiate members: Concordia University-St. Paul, University of Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State University Mankato, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Northern State University, St. Cloud State University and Wayne State College were recognized with the award.
University of Illinois-Chicago reported the highest cumulative team grade point average in the country in 2019-20 carrying a 3.96 GPA.
The 2019-20 award marks the seventh year since 2013-14 BSU has been honored by the organization for success in the classroom.
To be eligible for the award, a team must post a grade point average of at least 3.0. The 2019-20 award is based upon the 2019 team’s GPA.
Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
