MOORHEAD, Minn. (Nemzek Soccer Field) – The Bemidji State University soccer team improved to 5-0-0 and 2-0-0 in league play after a 2-0 victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead Sunday in Moorhead. Sara Wendt scored once in each half, while Georgiana Harber turned aside the only shot on goal she faced to lead the Beavers to victory.
BSU took the lead in the 28th minute. Lauren Harrison got the scoring pay started with a throw in to Mason Schilling. The freshman forward then beat a defender and struck a crossing pass to the front of the net, where Wendt connected with the ball and tipped it over the left shoulder of the MSUM goalkeeper for her third goal of the weekend and NSIC-leading seventh of the season.
Ally Smith got the second half underway ringing a shot off the crossbar just two minutes into play. While the Beavers held a 14-3 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal, it was the closest BSU would come to extending its lead until the 86th minute. With just over three minutes to play, BSU forced a corner. Maggie Cade connected the ensuing corner kick with Wendt for a header to put the game out of reach.
Harber earned her first victory of the season in goal for BSU. She had one save.
The Beavers have now won 12 of their last 14 meetings with MSUM and have outscored 32-4 since 2014.
