KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The United Soccer Coaches organization has tabbed Bemidji State University among the nation’s top 25 NCAA Division II teams in the its third poll of the 2021 season. After posting wins in the first five matches of 2021, the Beavers hold down the No. 15 spot in the United Soccer Coaches Women’s Soccer Poll.
The ranking marks the first time the Beavers have appeared among the top 25 in the country since the 2019 preseason poll (8/6/19). In all, the Beavers have earned an appearance in the United Soccer Coaches national poll on 16 occasions, which includes climbing to as high as No. 3, a program all-time best, Oct. 16, 2018.
The Beavers are the only team hailing from the NSIC among the top 25 and rank second in the Central Region Poll along with Minnesota State University Mankato (6) and Upper Iowa University (7).
BSU completed its first week of NSIC play with a 5-0-0 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in league play, earning a 2-1 win at Northern State University Friday before a 2-0 victory at Minnesota State University Moorhead Sunday. BSU has now won 10 straight regular-season matches dating back to Nov. 1, 2019, and takes its perfect league mark on the road to battle Minnesota State University Mankato Friday afternoon (3 p.m.) and defending NSIC regular-season champion Concordia-University-St. Paul at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
