Smith scores lone goal in 1-0 win over Minnesota Duluth

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Bemidji State University senior Ally Smith scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the University of Minnesota Duluth Friday afternoon to push the team's unbeaten streak to 14 matches. The Beavers moved to 9-0-1 on the season as senior Isabelle Morin accounted for the assist on Smith's game-winning goal.

Smith collected her third goal of the season in the 27th minute as BSU outshot UMD, 18-4, on the day with a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. Morin booted the ball high in front of the net and when Sara Wendt missed on an attempt to head in a goal, Smith was on the doorstep to clean up the loose ball with a header of her own.

Owning a one-goal lead to open the second half, No. 11 BSU had several near misses, including a penalty kick that rung off the post, but held on to remain tied for second place in the league standings with a 6-0-1 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

Alyssa Stumbaugh moved to 7-0-0 on the season making two stops to turn in her third shutout of 2021.

The Beavers will be back in action Sunday when they welcome St. Cloud State University to Chet Anderson Stadium for a 1 p.m. NSIC match.
