Bemidji State Athletics mourns the loss of former tennis coach Mark Fodness
The Bemidji State University Athletics community mourns the loss of long-time tennis coach, mentor and friend Mark Fodness. Fodness, who served as head coach of the BSU tennis team from 2013 to 2019, passed away suddenly Nov. 25.
Division II ADA names 73 Bemidji State Academic Achievement Award recipients
Bemidji State University totaled 73 student-athletes who were named as 2019-20 Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award recipients, as released by the DII ADA Thursday. All 13 of the Beavers’ Division II programs were represented among the award winners.
NSIC cancels fall competition, suspends all sports through Dec. 31
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s Board of Directors has voted to cancel NSIC fall sport competition and championships, and has suspended all athletic competition through December 31, 2020.
Fodness adds European duo to Bemidji State tennis roster
Bemidji State Tennis Head Coach Kyle Fodness has announced the commitment of Claudie Billand (Mullhouse, France) and Sophie Groen (Uitgeest, Netherlands) to the Beaver tennis roster. Each signed a National Letter of Intent and plan to start their BSU academic and athletic careers in the fall of 2020.
Neuharth and Junker named Bemidji State’s 2019-20 Athletes of the Year
Bemidji State soccer captain Tia Neuharth and Michael Junker, of the BSU football team, were named 2019-20 Female and Male Athletes of the Year to culminate an afternoon of individual and team recognition by BSU Athletics for academic and athletic excellence. In addition, Zöe Christensen, also of the outdoor track and field team, and men’s hockey standout Elias Rosén were selected BSU’s 2019-20 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year, while Jared Henning was selected as the recipient of the inaugural Bemidji State University Community Impact Award.
Bemidji State earns 41 selections to Spring NSIC All-Academic Team
Forty-one Bemidji State University student-athletes earned a spot on the 2019-20 Spring Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic Team, with 24 also meriting the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence recognition.
NSIC cancels 2020 spring conference competition and championships
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Board of Directors voted unanimously to suspend all activities related to intercollegiate athletics and cancel the remaining 2020 spring conference competition and championships due to concerns of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, late Sunday.
BSU splits NSIC wekend in Grand Forks
The Bemidji State University tennis team split a pair of neutral-site Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches in Grand Forks, N.D., Feb. 28-29. Following a 6-1 win over Upper Iowa University Friday, the Beavers dropped a 6-1 decision to Winona State University Saturday.
Beavers battle NSIC foes in Grand Forks
The Bemidji State University tennis team will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. this weekend for two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Beavers take on Upper Iowa University at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Winona State University at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both matches will take place and Choice Health and Fitness.
Beavers sweep road weekend to even record
The Bemidji State University tennis team earned a 6-1 victory versus Southwest Minnesota State University and swept Minnesota State University, Mankato, 7-0, to improve to 6-6 on the year and 4-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, Feb. 22-23.
