WINONA, Minn. (Winona Tennis Center) -- The Bemidji State University tennis team dropped its final nonconference contest of the 2010 season Sunday. St. Mary’s University (Minn.) defeated the Beavers 7-2 at the Winona Tennis Center.
BSU’s No. 2 doubles team of Kara Johnson (Jr., Andover, Minn.) and Kelli Christiansen (So., Bemidji, Minn.) defeated St. Mary’s Abby Cooper and Abby Voigt, 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, but the Beavers entered the singles portion of the competition trailing SMU 2-1 after the Cardinals took team points at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
As singles play got underway, SMU extended its lead to 4-1 earning straight-set victories in the top two singles matches. Bemidji State’s No. 3 singles player Britney Greenwaldt (So., Morris, Minn.) kept the Beavers’ hopes in the match alive garnering a 6-3, 7-6 win over Cooper, but the Cardinals closed the match out, 7-2, with wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles spot.
