Beavers drop home opener to Sioux Falls, 6-3

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Fitness-Recration Center) -- University of Sioux Falls spoiled the Bemidji State University tennis team's 2012 home opener Saturday, 6-3. Meg Hafdahl (Jr., Virginia, Minn.) had a hand in two of BSU's three team points earning a win at No. 5 singles and teaming with Brianna Rueter (So., Freeport, Minn.) to gain the Beavers' only doubles point (8-3) in the No. 3 slot.

The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the match after earning wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions and would not look back gaining wins in the top four singles matches en route to the 6-3 victory.

In addition to Hafdahl's win in the No. 5 spot (6-2, 6-3), Rueter, BSU's No. 6 singles player, earned a straight-sets victory 6-0, 6-1.

The Beavers return to action next weekend to host a trio of matches on BSU's "Whiteout Weekend." BSU welcomes University of Minnesota, Crookston for a 5 p.m. match Friday.  Saturday, the team hosts Augustana College at 1 p.m. before closing the weekend out with a 1 p.m. clash with University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday.
