Bemidji, Minn. – The Bemidji State University tennis team will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. this weekend for two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Beavers take on Upper Iowa University at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Winona State University at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both matches will take place and Choice Health and Fitness.
Bemidji State comes into the weekend after claiming wins in a pair of NSIC matches last week. The Beavers opened the weekend of play with a 6-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University before sweeping Minnesota State University Mankato for a 7-0 win.
The Beavers currently hold a record of 6-6 overall and are 4-4 in NSIC action.
Last season, the Beavers defeated the Peacocks, 5-2, and fell to Winona State, 6-1 in Winona, Minn.
The Peacocks sit at 1-5 overall, 1-5 in conference play and come into the match having lost their last five contests. Last weekend they dropped matches to Minnesota State University Moorhead (6-1) and University of Mary (6-1) in Winona, Minn.
In 2019, BSU earned its only team point in a 6-1 loss to WSU at the No. 6 singles spot, where Hannah Peterson earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
WSU holds an overall record of 4-2 and are 4-2 in NSIC play. Most recently, the Warriors fell to MSU Moorhead, 5-2, and picked up a 6-1 victory over U Mary.
After its road trip to Grand Forks, N.D., BSU will be back at the Gillette Health and Wellness Center round out the regular season with three home matches, March 28-29. The Beavers. BSU will host University of Minnesota Duluth at 10 a.m. March 28 before facing St. Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout and 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., March 29, respectively.
