Wednesday, April 23, 2003
Moorhead, Minn. - At the Men’s and Women’s Cobber Twilight yesterday, the BSU men were powered by the two first-place finishes by senior Steve Leuer (800m & 1,500m) as the Beavers took fourth out of 10 squads. Meanwhile, the women placed seventh overall as a team with top individual honors going to senior Martha Miltich in the 5,000m (18:42.82) and junior Caesare Stimson in the high jump (5’6 1/4”) - Stimson’s jump provisionally qualified her as well as ranking her sixth in NCAA Division II. Also, Stimson was third in the 100m with a time of 13.10.

Leuer’s top honors were his second and third such performances this season - he won the 5,000m at the Duncan Invitational (4/13). The first place for Miltich is her first this spring while Stimson won the St. John’s Heptathlon (4/14) with 4,402 points.

A toss of 110’4” in the hammer throw by sophomore Erin Suhonen set a Bemidji State record - Suhonen took ninth overall. The Wright, Minn., native broke her own mark set last year with 107’11”.

Sophomore Steve Schreiber took second in the high jump with a mark of 6’4” while junior Corey White had a good day with a third-place finish in the 800m (2:00.53) and sixth in the 600m (4:09.98).

This was the first event in the outdoor season to maintain team results. All the scores can be seen at the men and the women at

Also, the 4x100 and 4x400 men’s relay squads will compete at the Drake Relays, Friday through Saturday. Action will continue with both squads traveling to the NSIC Multi Championships on Sunday and Monday.

BSU’s Caesare Stimson was announced as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the week starting April 14th. She took first in the high jump (5’ 4 1/4” - ranked 1st in NSIC), second in the 200m (26.45 - ranked 4th in NSIC) and second in the 800m (2:30.83) en route to the heptathlon title at the Saint John’s University (MN) Multi-meet, April 13-14.
