Leuer & Hoheisel Conference Athlete of the Week; Facility Record Set By Leuer; Hoheisel Provisionally Qualifies

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference offices announced today that senior Steve Leuer (Maple Grove, Minn.) was named the NSIC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week and junior Melanie Hoheisel (Pengilly, Minn.) was named NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

Leuer set a facility record (Olson Forum) at the Cobber (Concordia-Moorhead) Duals on Saturday with a time of 2:29.95 in the 1,000M as he placed first overall. This performance comes a week after setting the school record in the 3,000M with a mark of 8:44.99 at the BSU Super 8 Open last Saturday.

Hoheisel provisionally qualified in the 55 / 60M Hurdles as she took first at the Cobber Duals on Saturday with a mark of 8.43. On top of that, she is currently ranked 10th in the NCAA in that event. Also, she set a BSU record in the Pentathlon at the North Dakota State University Pentathlon on Sunday. Placing eighth, Hoheisel totaled 2,822 points as she broke April Clairmont’s record of 2,523 set in 1998. Hoheisel took fourth in the 55M with a time of 7.48 at the Cobber Duals as well.

As a team, the men took fourth out of the eight teams with a 4-3 record while the women finished sixth with a 2-5 mark.

The next scheduled event is the Concordia Pentathlon on Friday, Feb. 7th.
