MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Monday that four Bemidji State athletes have been named to its all-conference team. The honorees include senior Mitch Cooper (Davenport, Iowa), freshman Shelby McCrady (Montgomery, Minn.), junior Steve Schreiber (Forest Lake, Minn.), and sophomore Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.).

Cooper’s long jump at the conference championships, measured at 23-5 1/4, shattered his own school record which he originally set during his freshman season. He also scored championship points in the triple jump and the 400-meter dash.

An outstanding rookie season for McCrady was capped off with a win in the 800-meter run at the championships, the first victory of her collegiate career. McCrady’s time of 2:22.24 earned BSU’s women’s team its only individual crown of the weekend. She also finished in eighth place in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 35-0 1/4.

Schreiber, who cleared 6-6 in high jump at the 2003 championships, was one of only four male athletes to successfully defend his individual title. He leaped 6-7 1/2 this year, besting his nearest competitor by an even two feet.

For the second year in a row, Wilson scored points in the shot put for the Beavers. His toss of 49-9 1/4 on Friday was the second-longest in the event, behind only Minnesota-Duluth’s Dan Soldner. Wilson, who holds the school record in the shot put, also finished sixth in the weight throw.

The conference also awarded three honorable mentions to Beaver athletes. Junior Mark Nordell (Apple Valley, Minn.) and sophomores Tristan White (Portland, Ore.) and Phil McCollam (Idaho Falls, Idaho) were recognized in the triple jump, 200-meter dash, and weight throw, respectively.
