ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced that juniors Ben Hopkins (Baudette, Minn) and Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.), and freshman Ashley Splolarich (Maple Lake, Minn) have been selected as the Men’s Track and Field and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week for their performance in Bemidji State’s Super 8 Open Saturday.

Hopkins grabbed a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.62 and just missed another victory in the 55-meter dash (6.57), placing second.

Wilson set a new Bemidji State record in the weight throw with a toss of 53-8 on Saturday in route to claiming the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week in the NSIC. The throw bettered the previous school record by five inches, and was good enough for a second place finish. Wilson also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 46-71⁄2.

Splolarich had three top-ten finishes for the Beavers, including two in field events. Splolarich claimed a high jump victory with a leap of 5-41⁄4, while adding a sixth-place finish in the triple jump by bounding 33-111⁄2. She completed the afternoon by placing fourth in the 800-meter run (2:23.28).

With three recipients this week, BSU’s NSIC Athlete of the Week total jumps to four on the season, following the recognition of senior Steve Schreiber (Forrest Lake, Minn.) on Jan. 17.

The Bemidji State track and field teams will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. Saturday to compete in the Concordia Duels.
