Men in third, women in fifth after one day at NSIC meet

WAYNE, Neb. - After one day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's outdoor track and field championships, the Bemidji State University men sit in third place and the women in fifth place, with Adam Wilson and Jon Clemons collecting all-conference recognition with first-place finishes in the hammer throw and high jump, respectively.

In Day 1 of the NSIC meet the men collected 64 team points and currently sit behind Northern State University (74.50) and Wayne State College (67). BSU's men collected 48 or their 64 points in the field events.

Along with Wilson and Clemons, Todd Ziedler and Phil McCollam earned all-conference honors with their second-place finishes in the javelin throw and the hammer throw, respectively.

The women's best finish came from Nicole Friend as she finished the javeline throw with her third-place distance of 104-5.

Combined, the women's team earned 20 points and trail Winona State University (69), Wayne State College (65), Minnesota State University, Moorhead (61) and Northern State (28).

Bemidji State will be in action again on Saturday in the conference meet in Wayne, Neb., on the final day or the 2006 outdoor season.
