ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bemidji State University men’s track and field team swept the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference weekly honors as Adam Wilson and Todd Zeidler were named the Male Field Athlete of the Week and the Male Track Athlete of the Week, respectively, the league announced today.

Wilson (Sr.; Forest Lake, Minn.) was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the weight throw. Wilson, who held the record at the beginning of the season, dropped into second place on Bemidji State’s all-time list in the weight throw on Jan. 28 when teammate Justin Cox broke his record at the DQ Blizzard Open in Superior, Wis. With his second place finish at the Cobber Duals on Saturday, Wilson reclaimed his record-holding status with his toss of 55-7. His toss was is currently the 21st longest distance among NCAA Division II athletes and qualified him for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Boston, Mass., in April.

The honor is the first for Wilson this season and the fifth of his career including both the indoor and the outdoor seasons.

Zeidler (Jr.; Plentywood, Minn.) was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week after claiming top honors in the 600-meter dash and the 1,000-meter run. In both events, Zeidler won by more than two seconds. In the 600-meter dash, Zeidler won with his time of 1:24.59. His time is currently the second best time in the NSIC. In the 1,000-meter run, Zeidler ran away from the rest of the pack with his time of 2:44.44. Zeidler’s time in the event has him ranked seventh in the conference heading into Friday’s competition. Zeidler also holds the seventh fastest time in the 800-meter dash this season among NSIC athletes.

The honor is the first for Zeidler both this season and for his career.

Bemidji State will next be in action as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn., to compete in the Husky Open on Friday.
