ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bemidji State University thrower Sheen Devine (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week in an announcement by the league today. The senior garners the award for her performance at the Ron Masanz Invitational in Moorhead, Minn. Saturday, May 3.

In her first appearance of the 2008 outdoor season, Devine made a splash at the invitational. She not only earned first place and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships with a shot put mark of 46-02.00, the defending national champion also posted the NSIC's second-longest throw of the season.

Her victory in the shot put helped the BSU women to a fifth-place finish in the 10-team event.

Sharing NSIC Athlete of the Week honors with Devine are: Female Track Athlete of the Week Anna VanWechel of MSU Moorhead, Concordia-St. Paul’s Tre Sayles who was named Male Field Athlete of the Week and the Track Athlete of the Week for Men, Jake Hamik of Northern State.

The league honor marks the second for BSU this outdoor season and the fifth of Devine's career. She follows sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Forest Lake, Minn.) who was selected as the league's track athlete of the week April 15.

Devine and the rest of the BSU track and field team continue the outdoor season Friday and Saturday when they travel to Wayne, Neb. to participate in the 2008 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The BSU men enter the meet in first place with a score of 12 thanks for Zac Preble (So., Coleraine, Minn.) and Rhegy Gelo (So., Pecora, Minn.) who finished first and fifth respectively at the NSIC decathlon April 27-28.
