Remitz takes Bison Open shot put title recording the nation's fourth-best throw of 2008

FARGO, N.D. - Senior All-American thrower Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) came just four inches shy of his own Bemidji State University shot put record en route to claiming the the top spot at North Dakota State University's Bison Open Saturday in Fargo, N.D. Remitz's throw of 57-00.75 is the senior's best mark of 2008 and stretched the tape over seven feet beyond that his closest Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference counterpart this season.

Remitz led a trio of Beavers that fared well at the meet. In addition to claiming first in the shot put, he also took top prize in the weight throw recording a distance of 59-03.00.

On the women's side of things, Nicole Friend (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) and Sheena Devine (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) also took first place in their respective events. Friend, posted her best 600-meter dash time of the season with a 1:38.97. While Devine captured first in the shot put with a throw of 46-07.25 and also finished fourth in the weight throw registering a mark of 49-10.00.

The Beavers now return home to host the Beaver Classic Saturday Feb. 8. Competition is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center.
