The sophomore swept the sprint events for the second time in as many weeks. Buerkle finished the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.74 on her way to a first place finish. In her next event, the 200-meter dash, Buerkle crossed the tape with a finishing time of 25.62. Buerkle completed the hat-trick of track events when she won the 400-meter dash finishing in 56.91. Her time in the 400-meter dash was just .10 seconds shy of a provisional qualifying time for the 2009 NCAA tournament.
These times represented Buerkle’s personal best times of the 2009 outdoor season and rank her among the NSIC top 10 times in each event. This award marks the first for Buerkle in the 2009 outdoor season. Buerkle was named NSIC women’s indoor track athlete of the week once in the 2009 season. The sophomore has now been named NSIC women’s track athlete of the week three times in her career at BSU.
Buerkle is joined by Jennifer Hensel of MSU-Moorhead, who was named NSIC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. On the men’s side of competition, Concordia-St. Paul’s Adam LeMay was named NSIC men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Wayne State’s Matt Schneider was also awarded by the NSIC as the men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Buerkle and the rest of the Beaver track and field teams travel to Moorhead, Minn. to compete in the Cobber Twilight this afternoon. Events are set to get underway at 3 p.m.
