Women's team has strong showing

BEMIDJI , Minn. --  Kristi Buerkle (So., Stacy, Minn.) pulled away from the pack to capture two event titles, while her teammate Genna Ironi (So., Sauk Centre, Minn.) also placed first in her respective event. Marcus Dennis (Fr., Walker, Minn.) was also able to capture a share of the first place finish in the high jump.

Buerkle finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.98 which was good enough for a first place finish. The sophomore also edged out her opponents in the 400-meter dash recording a time of 58.69 seconds. Adding to the first place finishes, sophomore runner Ironi won the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:27.80.

The women’s team also received a strong performance from Sara Dalton (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) who finished third in the pentathlon on Friday. The sophomore also had a strong showing in the 55-meter hurdles clocking in at 9.69. BSU women’s thrower Missy Kelsey (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) achieved a personal best in the weight throw on Saturday with a throw of 48-6, while placing second behind a thrower from Northern State who set a fieldhouse record.

On the men’s squad Dennis finished in a four way tie for first place in the high jump with a jump of 6-1.25. Close behind Dennis was BSU freshman Paul Wagner (Fr., Fisher, Minn.) who landed a jump of 5-11.25.

The Bemidji State men’s and women’s track and field teams are back in action next weekend when they come back home to host the Beaver Classic. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center on the campus of Bemidji State University.
