Buerkle, a 2009 All-America sprinter, placed first in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 57.25 before finishing second in the 200-meters, equaling the fastest time of her career of 25.63. In addition, she ran a leg of BSU's 4x200-meter relay that finished third.
Bemidji State also had a trio of middle and long distance runners fare well at the event. Genna Ironi (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) clocked a 2:30.49 to finish second in the 800, Allison Hougen (So., Bemidji, Minn.) posted her best time of the season in the 1,000-meter run to take second place and Shelly Saksa (Jr., Dassel, Minn.) took second in the 3,000-meters (11:29.07) and third in the mile run (5:37.07).
Mark Buerkle (Fr., Stacy, Minn.) paced a men's team with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash. His time of 51.83 stands as his fastest of 2010 in the event. In addition, the rookie also ran a leg on the Beavers' fourth-place 4x200-meter relay squad.
On the field, Raphael Gelo (Fr., Kabetogama, Minn.) reached new heights in the pole vault clearing a season-best 14-9 to capture second place. Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) was close behind in fourth at 13-9. He also took second in the shot put stretching the tape to 47-8.
Beavers are next in action Feb. 13 when they travel to Fargo, N.D. to
compete in the Bison Open. BSU's multi-event athletes will continue on
to Aberdeen, S.D. to participate in the first leg of the 2010 Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 14-15.
