Bemidji State to host Ninth Annual Alumni Meet
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s track and field teams open the new year Saturday when they host the Ninth Annual Alumni Meet. Events are set to begin at 3 p.m. at BSU’s Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.

In excess of 35 former BSU track and field athletes have turned in their entry forms for the event. Topping off the list are All-America and national champion throwers Joe Remitz (2008) and Sheena Devine (2008) as well as All-America multi-event athlete Zac Preble (2010).

Events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with a starting gun blast to signify the start of the mile run on the track, while the long jump, high jump, weight throw and pole vault will get underway on the field simultaneously.

At 3:30 p.m. Bucky the Beaver will make an appearance, all kids in attendance will have the opportunity to test their speed versus Bucky in the 55-meter dash.

The 4 X 400 meter relay will take place at 5:15 p.m., which is the final event of the day. An awards ceremony will be held on the track immediately following the relay races.

To cap the evening all are invited to dinner at Walnut Hall at 7 p.m. and a social at the Peppercorn. Cost for dinner is $10.

The athletes will compete in a triangular format splitting up into three teams, which will be separated by freshman, upperclassmen, and alumni. ‘The Old Moldy Green’ team will be given time handicaps for the number of years they have been away from collegiate competition. Former track athletes will also be given bonus points for wearing old track and field uniforms, sweats, or letter jackets.
