Buerkle sets record, helps pace Beavers at Cobber Open

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- (Olsen Forum) Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) won the 400-meter dash, setting an Olsen Forum record for the second straight year, to lead the Bemidji State University men's and women's indoor track teams as they competed in the Cobber Open Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.

Buerkle placed first in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 56.53. In addition, she anchored BSU's 4x200-meter relay that finished second (1:48.52) and the 4x400-meter relay that finished fourth (4:07.37).

Teammate Genna Ironi (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) paced the field in the 1000-meter run, winning by more than three seconds and posting a season-best time of 3:13.68.

Raphael Gelo (So., Kabetogama, Minn) helped lead the men’s team with a second-place finish in the pole vault and second place finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400 relay events. He continues to reach new heights in the pole vault, clearing a season-best height of 15-2.25.

Marc Sizer (So., St. Peter, Minn.) took second-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.98, while Abe Hartsell (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) ran a season-best time of 2:42.29 to finish third in the 1000-meter run.

The Bemidji State men’s and women’s track and field teams are in action next weekend at home when they take part in the Beaver Classic. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center on the campus of Bemidji State University.
