ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Halenbeck South Fieldhouse) -- The Bemidji State University women’s indoor track and field team traveled to St. Cloud, Minn. Saturday and left the SCSU Van Nelson Open with three individual titles. Taylor Sautbine (Jr., Tamarack, Minn.) got the Beavers out of the starting blocks as she turned in a season-best 9.56 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles.
Sautbine would use her time in the prelims to finish as the top seed en route to grabbing the crown in the finals with a time of 9.58.
MacKenzie Haupert (So., Andover, Minn) took the top spot in the 600-meter dash as she paced the field with a time of 1:44.72.
Tina Larson (Jr., Cyrus, Minn.) continued the winning ways in the 1000-m run, breaking the tape in a personal-best three minutes and 14.97 seconds (3:14.97) to finish first. Kasey Lasch (Fr., Wahpeton, N.D.) followed Larson home in sixth-place (3:35.59).
Senior captain Kirsten Maras (Ramsey, Minn.) finished third in the 800-m with a career-best time of 2:21.10, while Sara Churness (So., Big Lake, Minn.) placed ninth in her first attempt at the distance (2:35.46)
In the 400-m, junior Michelle Ohman (Prior Lake, Minn.) clocked in at 1:02.78 to earn fourth. Ohman finished 0.86 seconds off the winning mark set Haley Kemper of Gustavus Adolphus College.
Newcomer Tess Boucher (Alexandria, Minn.) placed fifth in the mile run, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:46.97.
On the field, Bethany Thompson (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.) cleared four feet 9.75 inches (4-09.75) to place second in the event, while teammate Danielle Wold (So., Hatton, ND) finished in a tie for third with a height of 4-07.75
Denna Hegg (Fr., Grove City, Minn.) tossed a personal-best 36 feet 11.00 inches in the weight throw to seize seventh. Hegg then used a mark of 30-06.35 to finish ninth in the shot put.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the BSU squad of Haupert, Larson, Ohman and Maras turned in a 2012-best effort to finish second with a mark of 4:11.33.
The Beavers return home to the host the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Multi Event Championships Sunday and Monday. Multi-event standouts Ashley Larva (Jr., Floodwood, Minn.) and Sautbine will compete in the pentathlon for the Beavers. Action gets underway from the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center being at 2 p.m. Sunday with the 60-meter hurdles in the women’s pentathlon.
The men’s heptathlon will start Sunday at 2:10 p.m. and resume action Monday at 10 a.m. with the 60-m hurdles.
