SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Jolynne Denman and Nicole Crummy posted season-best times Saturday to lead the Bemidji State University track and field team at the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Yellowjacket Open.
Denman's time of 20 minutes, 19.83 seconds in the 5,000-meter run was just 44 seconds off the pace, placing her second, and trimmed 34 seconds from her previous 2015-best mark. Crummy placed second in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:22.76. The mark not only improved her 2015 time in the event by three seconds, it also established a new career-best for the junior.
BSU's Chloe Miller placed 2nd in the 200-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 31.02, edging teammate Nikki Anderson (32.37), who finished fourth. Anderson also took fourth in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 9.81. In addition, Sara Melom recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter run (1:01.64) and Emily Turner continued her success in the mile run, turning in a time of 5:29.20 to place fourth.
In the field, Ciara Brewster led the way for BSU recording a throw of 39 feet, 5.75 inches to take second place in the shot put.
BSU's 4x200-meter relay team also recorded another great time this week, breaking the tape in 1:51.21 to finish first.
The Beavers return to Bemidji, Minn. and the Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center Thursday to host the BSU Twilight. Events are set to begin at 3 p.m.
