Bemidji State newcomers lead the way at The Opener Pentathlon

DULUTH, Minn. (Barnes Wellness Commons) – Bemidji State freshmen Christa Benson, Emily Rapp, and junior transfer Emeline Sevila competed in the Pentathlon on Friday, Dec. 4 at The Opener in Duluth, Minn. on the campus of the College of St. Scholastica.

All three of the Bemidji State newcomers competed in each event of the Friday session including the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and the 800-meter run.

Sevila, a transfer student-athlete from Nimes, France finished in fifth place overall with 3,126 total points. Sevila’s top finish came in the long jump, as she finished with a leap of 16-07, good for third place. She also placed in fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41.

Benson’s top finish came in the high jump as she placed in eighth (4-07). Benson finished in 11th place overall.

Rapp finished 12th place overall, her top score coming from the hurdles, with a time of 9.96.

The Opener will continue tomorrow with field events at noon at the Barnes Wellness Commons.
