Beavers have one top finish, six runners-up at Yellowjacket Open

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Lydia Thering Fieldhouse) – The Bemidji State University track and field team collected one top finish and several second place finishes at the Yellowjacket Open on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Saturday.

Nicole Crummy sprinted to first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2-minutes, 21.30-seconds.

Bemidji State also had six second place finishes.

Nikki Anderson was the runner-up in both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Anderson set a personal-best 60-meter hurdle time at 9.48 seconds. Throwers Ciara Brewster and Samantha Velde both set personal-bests and finished second in their respective events. Brewster’s throw of 40 feet, 9.75 inches was good for second in the shot put. Velde had a 45 feet, 6.50 inch weight throw. Sara Melom was a runner up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.35. Finally, Freshman Emily Rapp set a career-best time of 30.30 in the 200-meter hurdles, finishing second.

Along with many top-two finishes, came more signs of improvement for the Beavers with more personal-bests broken:

Phillie Bacon (5:37.54) and Jane Austin (5:54.07) both broke their own one-mile run records.

Trimming her 3,000-meter run record by 22 seconds was Jolynne Denman with a time of 11:27.04. Courtney Anderson also set a personal-best 3,000-meter run time (13:18.48).

Madison Kealy set a personal-best time of 1:48.56 in the 600-meter run.

Carli Schwint set a personal best triple jump at 31-2.50.

Kaitlyn Christianson improved her best shot mark put with a throw of 32-4.25.

Tomorrow the Bemidji State pentathlon athletes will compete in the NSIC Multi Championships at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The women’s pentathlon is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Myers Fieldhouse.
