MANKATO, Minn. (Meyers Fieldhouse) -- Bemidji State University multi-event athletes, Alex Coleman and Christa Benson each set personal-best marks in the pentathlon at the MSU Multis Friday in Mankato, Minn.
Coleman took fifth place with a five-event total of 3,016. She finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.26 seconds to score 852 points--her best finish of the day. She was also fourth in the long jump, stretching the tape to 7-feet, 2.75 inches to collect 488 points. Both performances were season-best marks as she increased her personal-best pentathlon score by 58 points.
Benson posted a 2,619 to finish ninth at the meet. The sophomore's top finish came in the 60-meter hurdles. She finished seventh with a time of 10.17 to collect 681 points. She also turned in career-bests in the shot put (27-06.75) and the long jump (14-09.25), while posting a 2:39.13 in the 800-meter run to log 583 points and finish six among the field.
The Beavers will be in action again tomorrow as the entire team competes caps the weekend at the Cobber Duals on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. The meet is set to get underway at 11 a.m.
