BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Friday’s meet for the Bemidji State University track and field team was a success as sophomore sprinter Venice Stewart set the program record in the 200-meter dash with a second-place finish. Stewart was one of six Beavers to compete at the South Dakota State University Holiday Open in Brookings, S.D.

Stewart set the BSU 200m indoor record, on a 300m oversized track, with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 24.78. She finished second in the race while also taking fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.72, 0.01 shy of her personal record and the BSU indoor record.

The majority of BSU’s events came during the pentathlon, led by senior Christa Benson with a personal record mark of 3,195. She finished sixth overall in the event, including a third-place finish in the 800m run. Benson also set a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 30-05.75.
