WEEK IN REVIEW

Bemidji State track & field opened its weekend with a bang as the program’s sprint medley relay record was broken and two Beavers nabbed event wins between the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday, April 23.

The sprint medley relay team of Janice Cole, Alaina Hall, Maryse Mbenoun and Ryne Prigge began the day at the Drake Relays with a second-place finish in the event with a new BSU outdoor record time of 4:08.46, breaking the previous record by almost five seconds. The previous record was set at the 2012 Drake Relays with a time of 4:13.42 by Taylor Sautbine, Ashley Larva, Michelle Ohman and Kirsten Maras.

Junior thrower Zoe Carrasco and Cole earned BSU’s event wins at the Kip Janvrin Open as five Bemidji State student-athletes in total competed. Cole started with a win in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.10 while Carrasco brought home the shot put title with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 14.29m (46-feet-10.75-inches). This is the first time she hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark this season.

Sophomore thrower Tierra Doss also competed in the shot with a fifth-place toss of 12.47m (40-11.00). Mbenoun ran in the 400m dash at the Janvrin Open with a seventh-place time of 2:21.02, setting a new personal record in the process. Hall also took seventh in her event, running 12.33 in the 100m dash.

On April 24, BSU saw three top-10 program marks set with nine top-five finishes overall at the Drake Relays and the Winona State Meet in Winona, Minn.

Carrasco hit her second NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of the weekend in the shot put after taking third-place with a toss of 14.05 meters (46-feet-01.25-inches). She was one of nine Beavers to finish within the top five of their respective events.

Prigge set the second-fastest 1500-meter time in program history with a third-place time of 4:45.01, missing her own program record by 0.51 seconds. Freshman distance runner Mary Goodwin set the fourth-fastest 3000m steeplechase time in program history with a second-place and personal record time of 12:00.19.

Junior jumper Analise Fabre took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.06m (36-03.50), which ranks 10th all-time at BSU outdoors. Fellow jumper Libby Christenson earned BSU's only event win of the day in the high jump. She tied a personal record with a leap of 1.60m (5-03.00).

In total, Bemidji State saw 16 personal records set on the day.
