Three records broken for Beaver Track & Field at Deb Schulz Open Friday

MANKATO, Minn. (Outdoor Track & Field Complex) -- Bemidji State University outdoor track & field’s late season records continued to fall Friday as the team competed at the Deb Schulz Open hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Three Beavers set outdoor program records in the triple jump, discus and 100-meter hurdles as BSU took third among nine competing teams.

Junior thrower Tierra Doss brough home BSU’s lone event win of the day while breaking a nearly 10-year-old BSU record in the discus. Doss recorded a mark of 147-feet-11-inches to win the event and break the previous BSU record by over three feet, which was previously set by Jessica Cagle in 2013.

Freshman hurdler Dynia Lewis also broke a BSU record set in 2013 as she took third in the 100m hurdles in the finals. Lewis opened her day with a fourth-place time of 14.47 in the preliminary round, which ranks tied for fourth at BSU all-time, to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Lewis ran a time of 14.32 to beat Ashley Larva’s previous BSU record by 0.09 seconds.

Senior jumper Analise Fabre broke the program’s triple jump record for the third straight meet. She topped her previous mark by nearly one foot with a leap of 38-08.25 to take sixth in the event Friday. Fabre now holds five of the top six triple jump marks and seven of the top 10 in BSU history.

In total, BSU recorded nine top-five finishes and saw 15 personal record marks set.

Bemidji State will compete next at the 2022 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 12-14 in Aberdeen, S.D.
